How to Outrank Your Competition

You put a lot of work into getting a listing. But, once you enter it into your real estate board’s MLS, it gets displayed and promoted on thousands of other real estate websites.

That means big brands like RE/MAX, RLP, Zoocasa, Zolo, Zillow, Kijiji, etc. have the right to market your listing. They are all spending a lot of money trying to rank #1 on Google for your listing.

To make matters worse – you also need to worry about your local competitors using your listing to grow their own business!

If you want to outrank your competition, what do you do?

Should you write more content?

You could write more content, build more backlinks and optimize your site, but that’s going to take a lot of time and effort. Not to mention that SEO and content marketing in 2020 has changed.

There are over 440 million blogs and over 1 billion if you count Medium and other online publishing platforms.

Google has way too much content on every topic imaginable written 100+ times over. Trying to build brand awareness with that much competition is going to be an uphill battle.

What about an SEO agency? It’s possible, but it will cost a lot of money and take years before you see the benefit.

There must be a better way, right? There is!

How do you stand out from the crowd?

All your competitors get your listing from the real estate board’s MLS, and they aren’t allowed to modify it. This works in your favour because you are allowed to change it, it’s your listing.

You need to add something to your listing that is new and hasn’t been seen before. This is your opportunity to unique showcase your listing as… yours.

What should you add to your listing?

The best place to start is with your listing description. Transform the short and constrained description that usually looks like this:

Into an exciting and personalized story:

Write as much as you can about the house, design, neighbourhood and your personal experiences while at the same time strategically adding in keywords that you want to rank for.

Don’t stop there – you should also unique content like 3D tours, floor plans, and videos.

The more unique and personalized you make your listing, the more love you’ll get. Not just by Google but from your buyers and your client.

How do you add content to your listing?

If you have a WordPress site, you will need to load your listing onto your website yourself. You need to have the same content as the MLS, but it’s worth spending the time to upload all the images, rooms and other property details.

If you use another provider, you’ll have to ask them how you can add unique and personal data to your listing through their platform. Not all providers let you.
